A few things to keep an eye on when evaluating the products:
- MUST be manufactured in the USA in a certified, GMP facility (Good Manufacturing Processes)
- MUST contain (be standardized to) 50% Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA) or better – some extracts go a bit higher to 60%, but in the scheme of things it’s not a significant difference. A lot of the higher concentrated products will use less extract, so sometimes you’re actually getting less active ingredient. [Example - 1000mg x 50% HCA = 500mg HCA versus 750mg * 60% HCA = 450 mg HCA]
- Most of the scientific research that we’ve reviewed included chromium, potassium, and/or calcium – there are a few other minerals as well – that can increase the effectiveness and absorption of the garcinia extract. Some products are just garcinia extract, which isn’t necessarily bad, but those that contain the added ingredients used in most of the studies likely have a boost in performance/results.
- There are some pretty dirt cheap garcinia products – sometimes you get what you pay for. In many cases, these products may be made in non-GMP facilities and therefore are not held up to FDA regulated quality control standards; ingredients coming from sketchy overseas suppliers; and in some cases products have been shown to have harmful pesticides, chemicals, etc. which likely result from a non-compliance, no-quality assurance, and companies trying to make a quick buck.
